Happy Earth Day! Today, we reflect on ways we can improve upon sustainable practices in our daily lives. Being eco-friendly is an important value for us at Faire, and we know it’s important to our community as well. So in celebration of Earth Day, we’re spotlighting how three amazing brands—Bee Raw, W&P, and P.F. Candle—are approaching sustainability.

Based in Brooklyn, NY, Zeke Friedman’s honey line Bee Raw is on a mission to produce single-origin honey while championing American family-run farms and apiaries to forward sustainable agriculture. They aspire to share how a lifestyle rooted in nature with small, self-care moments can positively nourish the planet and its inhabitants. Conscious of the origin and environmental impact of each ingredient, they produce a collection of goods free from additives, packaged in post-consumer paper and glass.

“I think one of the things that makes a Bee Raw product a Bee Raw product is that it’s really a small indulgence. It’s not just a sustainable product, it’s not just a healthy product, it’s not just a product that helps the environment and helps the farmers and beekeepers who produce that product, but it’s also an enjoyable product to look at, to taste, to integrate into how you cook and how you eat everyday,” says Zeke Friedman, founder of Bee Raw. “Whether it’s raw honey that is truly good for you or hive-powered ingredients, such as single-origin teas and raw beeswax, I consider these all part of the Bee Raw lifestyle and it’s a lifestyle that is simple and clean and beautiful and pure.”

P.F. Candle Co.

P.F. Candle Co. is a Los Angeles-based home fragrance company owned and operated by Kristen Pumphrey and Thomas Neuberger. They strive to put their community first—which means doing right by the environment. They proudly use 100% soy wax—a renewable resource, and every product is both vegan and cruelty-free. “P.F. is a completely independent business: what started as a one-woman operation in 2008 is now an entire team designing and producing our collection under one roof in Southern California,” say the founders. “As we grow, so does our commitment to sustainability, to our planet, and to our crew who makes it all happen.”

The brand aims to produce as little waste as possible, using only what’s necessary in their production, packaging and shipping processes. “We’re analyzing our supply chain and environmental practices for areas of improvement,” the P.F. team shared with Faire. “We’ve grown to a size where we can have a larger impact, and we believe brands have an ethical obligation to do right by our planet, their staff, and their customers – to do good while they grow.”

W&P

Founded by Josh Williams and Eric Prum, W&P began with the idea that the things you use to cook, eat, and drink could have a positive impact on your life and the world around you. “Whether it’s eliminating waste with reusable products, ensuring responsible manufacturing practices throughout our supply chain or supporting our friends at Edible Schoolyard NYC, our team strives to leave the world better than we found it,” says the team.

Single-use food packaging is among the most offensive culprits of pollution: 40% of all plastic is used just once, and only 9% of plastics are successfully recycled in the U.S. W&P’s Porter collection solves for this by upgrading make-and-take meals through innovative materials and attention to detail. Each product is designed to replace single-use plastics and encourage healthier habits—so you can celebrate sustainability on Earth Day, and every day.
